Who the fuck are denounce? A band local to Icon of Sin that's who... and a rather good one at that. Nothing particularly groundbreaking here, but it's melodic death/thrash with some solid riffage. Well worth a listen

Intronaut's unique sound blends the brutal and the experimental and progressive. At times the songs are doomy death metal with harsh vocals. Then all of a sudden there will be an instrumental break that's progressive and almost jazzy sounding. Then the brutality begins again

Just so no one is all surprised, Arghoslent expresses white supremacy views (that I do NOT share). But if you can listen to bands singing about spilling the blood of christians, you already demonstrate that you don't care about the content of the lyrics so you might as well check out some awesome (non-Gothenburg) melodic death metal.

Review from Encyclopaedia Metallum (Because I'm lazy and agree with this 100%):

This album is one of the most refreshing things I've heard lately, because of the total intensity and quite interesting approach to melodic Death Metalness. The guitars on this one is just so far from Gothenburg anything could possibly get. Every damn riff on this cd just plain fucking smokes. The drumming has about the same level of intensity and it's impressive as well. Arghoslent certainly have their sound put together.

The vocals are also quite interesting, as they seem to follow the intense riffing rather than having own patterns. This works suprisingly well and it's very refreshing to hear in comparison to all the vocal harmonizing going on these days.

A lot of the talk about Arghoslent is obviously about their racist stance. I seriously don't care when it's a musical effort this well-written and well-performed. This is 37 minutes of pure headbangable Death Metal intensity that very few bands can do better. I'm eagerly awaiting the next release from Arghoslent.Meanwhile, I'll bang my head off to Incorrigble Bigotry. I encourage you do it as well.

Alchemy X - 11:59:59 (2003)




Critically compared to prog acts like Dream Theatre and Fates Warning for much of the mid-to-late 1990’s, Alchemy X nonetheless has managed to carve out their own niche in the very underground scene that is progressive metal in the U.S. At times sounding heavier than the aforementioned bands, AX has also drawn comparisons to Iron Maiden and Savatage, as well as contemporaries in the field like Symphony X, Aztec Jade and Defyance All these characterizations have merit, depending upon which album or song one is hearing at the moment. The superior Petrucci-esque guitar work of twin 7-string ax-men Chris Fox and Rob Schreiber finds the perfect balance between furious riffing and bottom-end heaviness, while Steve Ratchen’s virtuosity on seven string bass(upside down no less!) is a well-documented configuration that further adds to AX's unique sound. Ratchen also adds everything from atmospheric strings to classical piano, laying texture to the bands more lush pieces. Drummer Chris Scorsese walks the fine line between Neil Peart precision and all-out thrashing. New vocalist Tom Engel brings amazing chops and a more modern sound as the band continues to move away from the DT comparisons, evoking the dark imagery and sound of bands like Tool, Tea Party and Korn, as well as the conceptualized lyrics and themes we’ve come to expect from Mr. Ratchen and company. The band is currently recording their third studio album, tentatively due out sometime in 2006.
